The Hilo Fun Dance Group is sponsoring its annual spring evening dance to raise funds for Hawaii Island Adult Care Inc. from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, at Aunty Sally’s Luau House in Hilo.

According to the Hawaii County there are 56,183 people who are 55 years of age or older living on the Big Island, and that adds up to approximately 30.4 percent of the population. For more information go to: http://www.census.gov/prod/cen2010/profiletd.pdf.

Hawaii’s seniors need a safe place to go to participate in programs designed to increase self-sufficiency and maintain their independence.

On the Big Island, Hilo Adult Day Care Inc. “provides a safe, socially active daytime environment for aging elders and disabled adults needing services regardless of their ability to pay.” The program keeps seniors living at home as long as possible with dignity and independence. Another benefit of the program is that it allows caregivers continued employment through adult daycare and respite. In addition, the program provides daily mental stimulation and physical activity for participating seniors. Senior helpers provide in-home assistance to home-bound aging elders and disabled adults needing services. Home safety and cleanliness is addressed by senior helpers. Services include chore care, meal preparation, personal care, transportation, and companionship.

Evening dance ticket donations are $10 which includes entrance, refreshments, and a chance to win prizes donated by various local businesses and individuals. This is an alcohol-free event. Tickets are available from Hilo Fun Dance Group volunteers, or by emailing hilofundance@yahoo.com and tickets will be held at the door for the donator. Tickets also will be available at the door on the night of the dance based on availability.

D&J Sound/Dance will provide a variety of music for social dancing throughout the evening.
